AbstractIn the present work we analyze the effect of disturbed electric fields in the sporadic E-layer formation at low latitude regions, Cachoeira Paulista (22,42°S, 45°W, dip: -15°), and São Luís (2°S, 44° W, dip: -2,3°). The analysis was conducted using the theoretical model for the E region, named MIRE, which simulates the Es layers taking into account the E region winds and electric fields. It also provides the densities for the main molecular (NO+, O2+, N2+) and metallic ions (Fe+, Mg+) by solving the continuity and momentum equations for each one of these species. The model has been validated by comparing the simulated results with data obtained from the Brazilian digisonde network. The validation revealed some discrepancies between simulated and observational data, such as the Es layer disruption/formation under high values of the F region drift velocity/electric field. This effect occurs mainly during disturbed periods and has not been successfully reproduced by the model, yet. Thus, the analysis was carried aiming to verify the role the disturbed electric fields in the occurrence or disruption of Es layers through simulations. The analysis shows interesting results of the relationship between electric field and drift velocity effect in the Es layer during the disturbed periods.
